Baptism

The baptism of children usually takes place on Saturday morning. In their respective languages each deacon makes the arrangements for the baptism. Children five years and younger are eligible.

(Children six years and older are baptized through our Religious Education program.)

Baptism in English

Contact Deacon John Kranz,  to schedule a meeting and arrange the date and time of the Baptism. At least one godparent must be Catholic and if the godparents are married, they need to be married in the Catholic Church.

Baptism in Spanish

Contact Deacon Guillermo Mendez,  for the calendar of classes and baptisms. Usually the Baptism classes are on Fridays from 7:00 to 8:30 PM in the basement of the Cathedral Rooms 1 and 2. Baptisms are celebrated on Saturdays in the Cathedral at 9:00 AM. At least one Godparent must be Catholic. If the godparents are a couple, they must be married in the Catholic Church. If the godparents are single, they must have been confirmed and be of legal age. The birth certificate of the baby to be baptized is required.

Los bautismos se celebran los sábados en la Catedral a las  9:00 AM. por lo menos un Padrino debe ser catolico  si los padrinos son pareja deben ser casados por la Iglesia católica si los padrinos son solteros tienen que haber hecho su confirmación y ser mayor de edad se necesita la acta de nacimiento del bebe que se va a bautizar.

Baptism for Children (six years and older)

These children enter our Religious Education program which is offered in both English and Spanish. At the end of the two-year preparation the child receives baptism, confirmation, and first Eucharist. Registration takes place during August each year. The Coordinator of Religious Education for English is Jacob Quintana at  and the Coordinator of Religious Education for Spanish is Deacon Guillermo Mendez at . Contact them for more information.

Baptism for Adults (eighteen years and older)

The program of Christian Initiation is offered in English and in Spanish. The process ends with the celebration of baptism, confirmation, and first Eucharist at the Paschal (Easter) Vigil Mass the Saturday night before Easter Sunday. The English process is directed by Tracey Fredman. The process begins with a personal interview with Tracy. The process usually takes a year to a year and a half. Contact Tracey at to set up the interview. For those speaking Spanish the process is a weekly class meeting on Monday evenings. The process is the full school year beginning in September.
