Sacramental Preparation

Becoming Catholic

If you are an adult who is interested in joining the Catholic Church we invite you to participate in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). The process is year around and you can enter at any time. An adult must be in RCIA for twelve months (i.e., an entire liturgical year) prior to being received into the church at the Easter Vigil. For information about becoming Catholic or finding out more about the Catholic faith, please contact Tracey Fredman via e-mail, at or by phone, 801-328-8941 ext. 104.

We also have the Rite of Christian Initiation of Children (RCIC), which is for children in fourth grade through eighth grade who need to complete their Christian Initiation. This class prepares young people for the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. This class meets on Sunday mornings from 9:30-10:45 AM on the lower level of the Cathedral. For information about the RCIC, please contact Cathy Paiz at 801-328-8941 or email at .

Adult Formation

For practicing Catholic adults, who for some reason or another, were never confirmed, there is a Diocesan Adult Confirmation held each year. Preparation for the reception of this sacrament takes place between Easter and Pentecost. Please contact Deacon John Kranz via e-mail, at or by phone, 801-328-8941, sometime during Lent to inquire about instruction for Confirmation. The classes begin at 6:30 PM and go to 7:30 PM and are held in the Board Room (Bishop Hunt Center: 3rd building (red) from the Cathedral. Go to north door and ring the bell.)

Classes are held in Scanlan Hall, on the lower level of the cathedral.  Children of the Cathedral parish and Madeleine Choir School receive the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Communion, which completes their Christian Initiation, and must be enrolled at least in second grade. Registration fee for supplies and materials is $50 or $75 per family plus $20 per student for the text. Sacramental preparation for Confirmation and First Communion is a two-year program. For further information, please contact Cathy Paiz, Coordinator of Children's Religious Education and Youth Ministry, at (801) 699-9059 or e-mail: .

Returning Catholics

For Catholics who have been away from the church and have returned or are thinking about returning there are often unresolved reasons that led to your departure. The Cathedral is beginning a discussion group for Catholics interested in returning to the church. The group will be facilitated by Mr. Ron Yengich and Deacon John Kranz. If you are interested in a meaningful discussion about what it means for you to return to the faith, please contact Deacon John Kranz at 801-328-8941 ext. 116 or .
